Wednesday, December 30, 2009, One Police Personnel, Lance Corporal 3541 Mohammad Hannafi bin Awang Abas, attached at the Investigation and Traffic Control Department of the Royal Brunei Police Force, was brought before the Magistrate’s Court, Bandar Seri Begawan on 1 count of offence under Section 6(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act (Chapter 131).

The Deputy Public Prosecutor, Dyg Hjh Anifa Rafiza bte Hj Abd Ghani informed the Court that investigation conducted by the Anti-Corruption Bureau revealed that the defendant on 6 August 2007 at the vicinity of Simpang 74, Kampong Mata-Mata, Gadong, did corruptly obtain from one local a gratification of a sum of BND$40.00 (Brunei Forty Dollars), as a reward for not taking action against the said person for contravening the Road Traffic Act (Chapter 68).

No plea was taken from the defendant. The Magistrate ordered the defendant to be released on bail in the sum of BND$5, 000 (Five Thousand Dollars) or 1 local surety and set 13th January 2010 at 9.30am for mention.
