Monday, December 29, 2009 – The High Court, Bandar Seri Begawan dismissed the appeal filed by one Singaporean, Dong Sui Hung against the sentence of 14 months imprisonment passed by the Magistrate’s Court, Bandar Seri Begawan on one count of offence under Section 6(b) of the Prevention of Corruption Act (Chapter 131). . Dong Sui Hung was found guilty on 5 September 2009. He was convicted for corruptly offering a gratification of a sum of BND$500.00 (Five Hundred Dollars) to an officer of the Maintenance Unit of the Department of Electrical Services as an inducement to expedite the payment claim in the amount of BND$28, 870.00 (Twenty Eight Thousand Eight Hundred and Seventy Dollars) made by a company in respect of works done on a contract between the said company and the Department of Electrical Services. The offence was committed on 11th March 2006 at Maintenance Unit of the Department of Electrical Services, in Pusar Ulak, Bandar Seri Begawan.
