Three RTB Personnel Charged

Saturday, 23 January 2010, two officers and one staff of the Youth and Children Unit, TV Programme Production Section, Radio Television Brunei, were brought before the Magistrate�s Court, Bandar Seri Begawan on charges under section 6(c) of Prevention of Corruption Act (Chapter 131).

Deputy Public Prosecutor informed the Court that investigation by the Anti-Corruption Bureau revealed that the first defendant, Hjh Salmayah binte Hj Md Husain, a Senior Producer cum Head Section of Youth and Children Unit TV Programme, Production Section, Radio Television Brunei who has been charged with 7 charges under section 6(c) of Prevention of Corruption Act (Chapter 131), had knowingly submitted false claim
(i)  in March 2007, in the amount of B$2,000,
(ii)  in April 2007, in the amount of B$2,000,
(iii)  in February 2007, in the amount of B$900,
(iv)  in April 2007, in the amount of B$400
(v)  in May 2007, in the amount of B$400
(vi)  in June 2007, in the amount of B$400
(vii)  in July 2007, in the amount of B$400

all of which are for the claim of payment of two locals for their involvement in the production of �Fun-Time� Program, which was false in material particular and was intended to mislead the Radio Television Brunei.

It was revealed that the second defendant, Norjanah binti Haji Japar, a Producer, at the Youth and Children Unit TV Programme, Production Section, Radio Television Brunei Youth and Children Unit TV Programme, Production Section, Radio Television Brunei who has been charged with 3 charges under section 6(c) of Prevention of Corruption Act (Chapter 131), had knowingly submitted false claim
(i)  in February 2007, in the amount of B$225,
(ii)  in May 2007, in the amount of B$200,
(iii)  in June 2007, in the amount of B$100

all of which are for the claim of payment of one local for her involvement in the production of �Fun-Time� Program, which was false in material particular and was intended to mislead the Radio Television Brunei.

It was revealed that the third defendant, Sa�adiah binte Tudin, a Clerk at the Youth and Children Unit TV Programme, Production Section, Radio Television Brunei Youth and Children Unit TV Programme, Production Section, Radio Television Brunei who has been charged with 1 charge under section 6(c) of Prevention of Corruption Act (Chapter 131), who had knowingly submitted false claim in July 2007 in the amount of B$100 for the claim of payment of one local for her involvement in the production of �Fun-Time� Program, which was false in material particular and was intended to mislead the Radio Television Brunei.

No plea was taken from the three defendants. The Magistrate ordered for the first and second defendant to be released on bail of BND$5,000 (Five Thousand Dollars) or one local surety, while the third defendant to be released on bail of BND$3,000 (Three Thousand Dollars) or one local sureties. The Magistrate set 6th February 2010 for further mention.
