Monday, January 11, 2010, Two Police Personnel, SGT 1606 Abd Salam bin Mohd Jaya and PC 4393 Md Saiful Rezan bin Haji Jaafar were brought to Magistrate’s Court, Bandar Seri Begawan on one count of offence under Section 6(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act (Chapter 131) read with Section 34 of the Penal Code (Chapter 22).

Investigation conducted by the Anti-Corruption Bureau revealed that both defendants on 14 June 2009 along Jalan Kampong Lumut Seria, Kuala Belait in furtherance of their common intention did corruptly accept from one Thai national a gratification of a sum of BND$30.00 (Brunei Thirty Dollars), as a reward for not to proceed with reporting a suspected offence under the Road Traffic Act (Chapter 68).

Both defendants pleaded not guilty. The Magistrate ordered them to be released on bail of BND$5,000 (Five Thousand Dollars) or 1 local surety for each of them. The Magistrate set 24 & 25 February 2010; 3, 4, 17 and 18 March 2010 for trial.
